The Kentucky Rifle Cats will look to pick up where they left off last weekend when they take part in the Withrow Invitational this weekend at Murray State University. Kentucky will compete Sunday, January 26 at 8 a.m. CST to wrap up the three-day, multi-school competition. The Rifle Cats are looking to build momentum after a decisive victory over conference rival Xavier last Saturday in Lexington.
Kentucky is led by two-time All-American Bradley Wheeldon, a junior from Eubank, Ky. and freshman Vicki Goss. Against Xavier, Wheeldon fired a 1174 in smallbore, followed by an impressive 395 in air rifle. Goss, a Palmyra, Pa. native, was not far behind, turning in a 1166 in smallbore and a solid 391 in air rifle.
Kentucky Coach Harry Mullins is hoping for another quality performance this weekend.
“I’d like to see our team maintain the good start we had against Xavier. Our confidence level is getting higher, and the competition we’ll face this weekend will be good preparation for the NCAA Sectionals in February,” Mullins said.
Upon completion of the Withrow Invitational, Kentucky will prepare for its next match Saturday, February 1 against Rose Hulman in Lexington.
