Lexington, Ky. – Kentucky women’s basketball received more bad news Thursday as walk-on Jennifer Goin was diagnosed with a stress fracture in her left foot. She could miss up to six weeks. Goin’s injury comes just one day after Wildcat guard Jenny Pfeiffer broke her left hand, forcing her to possibly miss the remainder of the season.
“This is a big blow for us,” UK Coach Bernadette Mattox said. ” ‘Scoop’ will really be missed. She is a great defender and a real asset to our team. She was really starting to come into her own. It’s tough with these two injuries in one week. At this point, we really have to stay focused and together.”Goin, a 6-0 forward, walked on the team in October after an illustrious career at Carmi White High School from 1998-2001, where she became the all-time leading scorer with 1,971 points. She did not play basketball last season to concentrate on academics.
Her best game came Dec. 23 against Morris Brown, where she recorded 10 points and 10 rebounds, both career highs.
The sophomore is a pre-physical therapy major.
The Cats play host to Ole Miss tonight at 7 p.m. at Memorial Coliseum.
