Lexington, KY – The University of Kentucky women’s basketball guard Jenny Pfeiffer has suffered a broken left hand and may be lost for the remainder of the season. The freshman starter fell during practice on Tuesday, breaking her third and four metacarpal bones of her non-shooting hand.

“This is obviously something I hate to see happen to such a young person who was really coming on in our program and understanding how to play in the SEC,” UK Coach Bernadette Mattox said. “We are going to have to pull together as team and take up of the slack of missing such a great shooter. Everyone else will have to step up.”

Pfeiffer, a 5-8 shooting guard from North Vernon, Ind., has started the last 11 games for the Wildcats and is the team’s fourth leading scorer, averaging 10.3 points and 2.3 rebounds per game.

The Wildcats (8-7, 1-2 SEC) play host to Ole Miss on Thursday, Jan. 23, at 7 p.m. in Memorial Coliseum.

Pfeiffer is scheduled to have surgery on Wednesday, Jan. 22 at the UK Hospital. She will be out for approximately six to eight weeks.
