Final score: Kentucky 88, Notre Dame 73

Kentucky won its seventh consecutive game and is now 13-3 overall. Notre Dame is now 14-3.

Kentucky leads the series 40-17, including a 7-0 mark in Lexington, and the Wildcats have won the last nine in a row over the Fighting Irish. The teams play again next season in South Bend.

Kentucky is 4-1 against ranked opponents this season. This was Kentucky’s second win over a top-10 opponent, including a 70-64 win over No. 6 Indiana on Dec. 21.

Kentucky went ahead for good at 6-5 when Keith Bogans hit a three-pointer with 16:46 remaining in the first half, but the Wildcats didn’t put the game away until well into the second half.

UK shot 52.3 percent from the field, the ninth time in 16 games this season that the Wildcats have made at least half their shots.

UK shot 78.3 percent from the free throw line, the seventh time in the last eight games that the Wildcats have topped 70 percent at the charity stripe.

Notre Dame shot 34.4 percent from the field. This is the third consecutive game that Kentucky has limited its opponent to less than 40 percent shooting.

The Wildcats tied their season low for turnovers with nine.

A balanced scoring effort featured four Wildcats in double figures and two more who tallied nine points.

Sophomore forward Chuck Hayes had a marvelous game. He had career highs with 17 points, 16 rebounds, five assists (tie career high), and three blocked shots.

This was Hayes’ second double-double of the season and third of his career.

Hayes’ 16 rebounds marked the first time a Wildcat gathered that many caroms since Jamaal Magloire hauled down 16 boards against Maryland on Dec. 11, 1999.

Senior center Marquis Estill has won the opening tip in every game this season.

Senior G/F Keith Bogans had 13 points today. That improves his total to 1,636 in his career, just one point shy of the Kentucky top-10 career scoring list. Ed Davender is in 10th place with 1,637 points.

Today’s game featured a celebration of the 25th anniversary of Kentucky’s 1978 national championship team. The team was introduced at halftime.

Kentucky returns to action Wednesday at 7 p.m. when the Wildcats play host to Auburn. The game will be telecast live on Fox Sports South.
