The 22nd-ranked University of Kentucky GymKats will open their 2003 Southeastern Conference schedule when they play host to 14th-ranked Louisiana State and Centenary College on Friday, Jan. 17, at 7:30 p.m., in Memorial Coliseum. The Cats got off to a strong start last weekend, defeating regional rival George Washington in front of over 6,000 fans during Excite Nite, UK’s annual season-opening event.
Kentucky (1-0, 0-0 SEC) used a 193.625 score to defeat the Colonials last Friday, receiving strong performances by a number of familiar faces. Junior All-American Aronda Primault and senior Julia Gore led the GymKats, finishing first and second in the all-around, respectively. Senior Mindy Smith had a strong showing on the balance beam, posting a 9.875, the highest single-event score of the night.
The LSU Lady Tigers (3-0, 0-0) are coming off a victory at the Bahama Breeze Invitational. Their team total of 194.600 was good enough to defeat Maryland, Illinois and Towson State. The Centenary Ladies (0-1) lost to Southeast Missouri State in their first action of the year last weekend.

Kentucky will have its first road trip next weekend when they travel to Gainesville, Fla., to face Florida, Minnesota and Bowling Green on Friday, Jan. 24.
