Final Stats

Lexington, Ky. – The University of Kentucky men’s (2-3, 0-3 SEC) and women’s (1-4, 0-3 SEC) swim teams swept the University of Cincinnati on Sat., Jan. 11, in Erlanger, Ky. The UK women outscored UC 114-79 while the men bested the Bearcats113.5-81.5.

Freshman Brennan Moore continued her strong debut season with the Wildcats as she won the 1,000-yard freestyle (10:19.97) and the 200-yard backstroke (2:08.34). Moore also finished second in the 200 IM (2:09.72), just behind fellow freshman Shantel Commander, who won the event in a time of 2:09.29. Sophomore Marci Vrooman also took victory in two events, winning both the 200 freestyle (1:54.79) and the 500 freestyle (5:06.16). Joanna Chetcuti-McLean won the 50 free (24.87), closely followed by Jessica Siegele (25.05), and finished second in the 100 free (54.14). The 400 medley relay team of McLean, Commander, Siegele and Kelly Hoffrage won that event in a time of 3:57.27. The 200 backstroke was the strongest event for the women, with Jenaca Pumphrey (2:09.38) and Shawna Sechrist (2:10.83) combining with Moore to take the sweep in the event.

The UK men dominated the 200 freestyle with Daniel Cruz (1:41.95), Daniel Farnham (1:42.56) and Jon Cartledge (1:47.49) finishing first, second, and third, respectively. Matt Nilson (1:51.46) and Joey Faltraco (1:55.20) finished one-two in the 200 butterfly while Faltraco (1:50.67) and Cody Nath (1:56.13) accomplished the same feat in the 200 backstroke. Steven Manley was victorious in the 500 freestyle (4:36.33) and finished second in the 200 IM (1:51.81). Faltraco, Cruz, Roger Watkins and Fernando Barros won the 400 medley relay in a time of 3:26.70, beating out UK’s second team of Cody Nath, Aaron Cuker, Clay Gasparovich and Nilson (3:30.69).

The two teams will be back in action on Feb. 1, as they travel to Baton Rouge, La., for a date with the LSU Tigers.
