The University of Kentucky rifle team defeated Morehead State Saturday, Nov. 16, 5981-5781, in Buell Armory in Lexington. Freshman Brad Donoho had a personal best 1154 in smallbore. He also tied a personal best with 386 in air rifle. Both marks led both teams.
The Cats had the edge in all four positions, defeating the Eagles in prone (1556-1525), standing (1453-1367), kneeling (1473-1413) and air rifle (1499-1476) to pull off the 200 point win.
“The team came back well today after a tough loss yesterday,” Coach Harry Mullins said. “Hopefully this will get us back on the right track. I think this weekend will turn out to be a big factor in the matches to come.”
Donoho had match-highs in prone (394), standing (383) and air rifle (386). Sophomore Jeff Hamberg’s 384 in kneeling led all competitors in that category.
The Rifle Cats improve to 4-4 on the season overall and 1-3 in the Ohio Valley Conference. They will next be in action Saturday, Nov. 23, when they host the four-time defending national champions from Alaska-Fairbanks. The match is scheduled to begin at 8 a.m at the Buell Armory on UK’s campus.
