Columbia, S.C. – The University of Kentucky men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams were both defeated by the South Carolina Gamecocks on Friday, Nov. 1, at the Carolina Natatorium in Columbia, S.C. The UK women fell by a score of 163.5 to 78.5, while the men lost a heartbreaker, 125-118.

Junior Joey Faltraco gave a great effort for the UK men (0-3, 0-3 SEC) as he won three events. Faltraco, who transferred to UK from South Carolina, won the 1,000-free (9:37.62), 200-back (1:47.34) and 200-IM (1:51.72). Senior Roger Watkins was victorious in the 200-breast (2:06.01), while fellow senior Aaron Cuker (2:06.67) took second in the event. Daniel Cruz gave a strong effort for the Cats as he won the 200-fly (1:49.02). The 400-medley relay team was also victorious for Kentucky, finishing in 3:26.90. Senior All-American diver Clayton Moss, who has been battling injuries in the early season, finished second in both the one-meter and three-meter springboards.

The UK women struggled on the afternoon, with only two first-place finishes. Their strongest race came in the 200-breast, where Kendra Trahan (2:23.27), Laura Graham (2:23.68) and Shantel Commander (2:23.87) were the top three inishers. Freshman Brennan Moore continued her successful season by winning the 200-back in a time of 2:04.11. Sophomore Chrissy Miller took home second-place finishes in both the 100 and 200-free.

Both teams will be back in action for the Cats when they travel to Chapel Hill, N.C. for the Nike Cup Invitational on Nov. 21-24.
