The University of Kentucky men’s soccer team will continue Mid-American Conference play this weekend when it faces Western Michigan and Northern Illinois.
The Cats will travel to Kalamazoo, Mich., to face the Broncos at 3 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 25, before returning home to the UK Soccer Complex to play host to Northern Illinois on Sunday, Oct. 27, at 2 p.m. As Sunday’s match with the Huskies is UK’s final regular season home contest, six Wildcats will be honored in a senior night ceremony prior to the match.
Kentucky (7-7-0) is off to an 0-2 conference start this season for the first time since 1996 — they have never began league play 0-3. The Cats also will be trying to break a four-game losing streak, preventing their first five-game losing streak since 1998.
Prior to last weekend, Kentucky had won 11 straight league matches, dating back to the end of the 2000 season. UK is a combined 16-2 all-time against this weekend’s opponents, having lost only once to each team.
Western Michigan (3-9-2) brings a 1-4 conference record into their 12th meeting with Kentucky. Their lone MAC victory came against Bowling Green, whose match with Kentucky, scheduled for Sept. 27, was canceled due to Hurricane Isidore.
NIU (4-11-0) comes into the weekend with a 2-2 record in the MAC after defeating Buffalo and Western Michigan last weekend. The Broncos and Huskies have both allowed twice as many goals as they have scored this season.
This weekend’s action ends conference play for the Broncos and Huskies, but Kentucky will travel to Akron next Friday, Nov. 1, to complete their regular season schedule against the Zips at 7:30 p.m.
Akron (5-6-2) is undefeated in MAC play, but still awaits matches against Bowling Green, Buffalo and UK.
