Abney the SEC Special Teams Player of the Week: For the second time this season, Kentucky kick returner Derek Abney has been named SEC Special Teams Player of the Week as selected by the league office.
Against Arkansas, Abney returned two punts for 123 yards, returned one kickoff for 20 yards, and added four pass receptions for 70 yards. Abney’s 86-yard punt return for a touchdown in the third quarter was a key play in UK’s 29-17 victory over the host Razorbacks. The 86-yard return was a career long for Abney and the fifth-longest return in school history. It was Abney’s third TD return of the season. He returned both a punt and a kickoff for scores at Florida.
As far as Kentucky fans are concerned, this was a great year for the Southeastern Conference to start the SEC Special Teams Player of the Week award. Abney has won twice this year, for the Arkansas and Florida games, and kicker Taylor Begley also took home the honor for his performance in the win at Louisville.
Georgia Game Sold Out: The final tickets have been sold for the Georgia game on Saturday. This is Kentucky’s third sellout of the season, joining the Indiana and South Carolina games.
