Newport, R.I. – The UK men’s golf team notched their best finish of the fall season with a third place finish at the Adams Cup of Newport golf tournament in Newport, R.I.
The Wildcats finished with a three-day total of 879, leaving them six strokes behind tournament winner Michigan State. Texas A&M finished second and Georgia tied with UK for third.
Leading the way for the Cats was sophomore John Holmes who notched his first top-10 finish of the year. After an opening-round 76, which left him in a tie for 37th, Holmes fired two under-par rounds (69, 71) to vault himself to an eighth-place finish. Senior Andy Dustman was unable to make his opening-round 69 hold up and a second round score of 80 sent him to a 16th-place finish with a 3-over par 219. Tournament host Rhode Island finished in a tie for ninth.
The Cats next tournament will be the Gary Koch/Cleveland Golf Invitational in Tampa, Fla. The tournament will be played on Oct. 15-16.
