Junior Rahim Esmail got by his first two opponents Friday and Saturday in the prequalifying tournament of the 2002 Icy Hot/ITA Men’s All-American Championships at the Champions Club in Chattanooga, Tenn. Junior Matt Emery and freshman Alex Hume picked up victories in singles action while Hume and senior Elliott Datlow won their first match in the doubles draw at the Louisville Invitational.

Esmail, whose first round match was delayed because of weather, was able to take care of Arkansas’ Kristofer Ivarsson 6-0, 6-0. He came back on Saturday and beat Iowa’s Hunter Skogman 6-2, 6-4. He faces Baylor’s Barry McLaren Saturday evening in the round of 64. Eight players will move on from the prequalifying tournament to the qualifying bracket, which begins Tuesday, Oct. 8.

Emery, playing as the No. 2 seed in the Flight “A” singles draw at the Louisville Invitational, defeated Michael Parker from Indiana University/Purdue University Fort Wayne 7-5, 6-3 to move to the second round. Hume was selected as the No. 2 seed in the Flight “B” draw and had an easy time with Bellarmine’s Brandon Campbell, as we won 6-0, 6-2. Datlow lost his first round match with Murray State’s Masimba Muskwe 6-3, 6-3 and will play in the Flight “A” consolation bracket.

Hume and Datlow teamed up as the No. 2 seed in the Flight “A” doubles bracket and defeated IUPUI’s Luke Recker and Brian Slack 8-2 to advance.All four Wildcats will play matches Saturday.
