The University of Kentucky women’s golf team opened action in the Franklin Street Trust Tar Heel Invitational on Friday, Oct. 4 at the Finley Golf Course in Chapel Hill, N.C. The Lady Kats shot a team score of 303 and finished the first day in 10th-place of the 15-team field.

Senior Kelly Anders led Kentucky with a one-over-par 73 and stands in 11th-place, while fellow senior Rachel Lester shot an opening round of 76. Junior Eva Gessner and sophomore Stacy Springer are tied in 36th after shooting a 77. Sophomore Lauren George opened the tournament with a score of 82.

In the lead after the first 18 holes is Duke University with a team score of 290 and host school, University of North Carolina follows in second place with a 296. Liz Janangelo of Duke leads the individual competition after a five-under-par 67 first round score.

Second round action will take place on Saturday, Oct. 5, with tee times beginning at 9 a.m.
