Tallahassee, Fla. – UK freshman Nathalie Roels made her mark on women’s collegiate tennis today when she won her finals match in the “B” flight of the Lady Seminole Classic on the campus of Florida State. Roels beat Mysti Morris of Georgia Tech, 6-2, 6-3, to claim the title. Morris was the No. 1 seed and Roels the No. 2 seed in the 32 player draw.
“Nathalie completely dominated her draw,” coach Mark Guilbeau said. “This was a dominating performance by her and a very good win. The whole team is happy for her. It’s good to see her get off to such a great start.”
Also in singles action, sophomore Danielle Petrisko won the consolation draw.
“That win was a great compliment to her character,” Guilbeau said. “For her to be eliminated in a first round match and to then come back and play the way she did says a lot about her.”
In doubles, the team of Jill Buckley and Amy Trefethen defeated Sarah Witten and Nathalie Roels, 8-6, in the all UK final.
“It’s a great accomplishment for our team to have an all UK final,” Guilbeau said. “It was a very well played match.”
The Cats’ next action will be Oct. 4 at the UT/St. Mary’s Tournament in Knoxville, Tenn.
