The University of Kentucky women’s golf team finished the 2002 Chrysler ACC/SEC Challenge in Destin, Fla. in 11th-place on Sunday, Sept. 29. The Lady Kats shot a third round team score of 320, with senior Kelly Anders leading Kentucky with a seven-over-par 78.
Anders finished in 12th-place after a three round 223. Anders’ lowest round of the tournament was on the first day of competition with a three-under-par 68. Junior Eva Gessner had her lowest round of 74 on day two leading to her 31st-place finish with a total 229. Other Wildcat total scores include Rachel Lester with a 232, Stacy Springer with a 247, and Lauren George with a 249.
Auburn University grabbed the tournament title with a total score of 887, six strokes ahead of second-place Duke University. Auburn’s Diana Ramage secured the individual title with a three-day one-over-par 214.
The Lady Kats will return to the course on Oct. 4-6 when they travel to Chapel Hill, N.C. for action in the Lady Tar Heel Invitational. Kentucky finished in ninth-place of the 2001 tournament hosted by the University of North Carolina.
