The UK women’s tennis team opens their fall tournament schedule at the Lady Seminole Classic in Tallahassee, Fla., this weekend. The event is being played Friday, Sept. 27 through Sunday, Sept. 29 at the Speicher Tennis facility on the campus of Florida State.
Leading the charge for the Cats is senior Sarah Witten, who is No. 39 in the nation by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association rankings. Witten enters the match as the No. 3 seed in the “A” bracket of the tournament. Joining Witten in the same bracket will be seniors Amy Trefethen, the No. 6 seed, Jill Buckley and Shannon Stafford.
“We’re very excited about our first tournament,” coach Mark Guilbeau said. “We’re ready to get going and pick up right where we left off last year. There won’t be any type of rebuilding. We expect to go out and compete right away.”
Freshman Nathalie Roels will play in the “B” bracket as the No. 2 seed. Also playing in the “B” bracket for UK will be sophomore Danielle Petrisko, and freshmen Shannon Stough and Kaci Anson.
