Former UK women’s tennis standout, Brooke Skeen, has won her first professional title on the United States Tennis Association professional circuit. Skeen, who starred at UK from 1997-2000, won the doubles title at the $10,000 Satellite Tournament in Greenville, S.C.
Skeen and her partner, Jennifer Radman, went into the tournament unseeded, but upset the No. 2 seed tandem of Julie Ditty and Michelle Dasso in the final, 4-7,7-5,6-3. They defeated the No. 1 seeded team in the quarterfinals.
Skeen also made a terrific showing in singles play. She defeated No. 2 seed Julie DeRoo and Stanford star Erin Brudette before losing to eventual champion Neyssa Etienne in the semifinals.
UK women’s tennis coach, Mark Guilbeau, said he is very pleased to see Skeen doing so well.
“This is a great accomplishment for Brooke,” Guilbeau said. “It’s her first professional title. She has had very steady results on the USTA professional circuit and will likely achieve even more.
“This is no different than the type of amazing results she produced throughout her collegiate career at UK. I am so happy for Brooke and am proud of her continued efforts, spirit and enthusiasm. She is a remarkable competitor and a great tennis player.”
