Box Score

The No. 19 University of Kentucky women’s soccer team surrendered two first half goals as it fell, 2-0, to Michigan State in the 100th home game of the program’s 11-year history Friday night. The Wildcats (3-2-0) outshot the Spartans (4-0-0), 19-6, but 11 saves by MSU goalkeeper Stacy Heller prevented numerous scoring opportunities throughout the match.

“We didn’t finish,” Coach Warren Lipka said. “Technically, it was the poorest showing we’ve had all year. Balls were going out of bounds, we didn’t take balls out of the air and we couldn’t finish inside the 18.”

Michigan State got on the board at 18:10 when Emma Harris passed to the center of the box and Tiffany Laskowski finished off the play with a goal from 12 yards out to the upper left of the net. Laskowski’s goal proved to be the game-winner as the Wildcats were held scoreless for the first time this season. Three minutes after the score, Harris provided the insurance goal at 21:31 off a free kick from Erin Konheim to give MSU a 2-0 lead it would not relinquish.

For UK, Elizabeth Ramsey led the way with four shots and Danielle Slupski added three in the losing cause. Goalkeeper Liz Butler did not record a save in the defeat as MSU took the upper hand in the overall series tonight, 2-1-1. UK is now 64-33-3 (.655) when playing in Lexington.

The Wildcats will next be in action on Sunday, Sept. 15 when they play host to Northwestern at 2 p.m. ET.
