Morriss Shortens Practice: Although the Wildcats could have come out in full pads, the Kentucky football team wore helmets, shoulder pads, and shorts during a one-hour, 15-minute practice Thursday morning at the Nutter Training Facility. The practice was 45 minutes shorter than the usual length.
“In keeping with the philosophy of trying to keep them fresher, we decided to shorten practice this morning,” Coach Guy Morriss said. “They’ve worked really hard the first three days. We want to keep them as mentally and physically fresh as we can.”
Morriss said that the Wildcats would return to the usual schedule and practice two hours Thursday afternoon. The coach also noted that the team would not practice Saturday morning, but would put on full pads and have an extended team period during Saturday afternoon’s practice. The team will scrimmage for approximately 40-50 plays during the extended team period.
Wilson, Hall Updates: Sophomore cornerback Warren Wilson has sustained a torn ligament and cartilage in his left knee and is out for the season, Coach Guy Morriss announced. Wilson had injured the knee in practice on Tuesday afternoon.
Wilson played last year as a true freshman and is eligible for a redshirt season. Athletics trainer Jim Madaleno said that Wilson will have surgery in two-to-three weeks, after the swelling has reduced. If all goes well, it is possible that Wilson could have limited participation in spring practice.
Wilson was contending for a backup role at cornerback behind projected starters Derrick Tatum and Leonard Burress. Morriss said that redshirt freshman Antoine Huffman and true freshman Bo Smith are contending for the reserve roles. Sophomore Earven Flowers is being played at multiple positions in the secondary and also could play some at the corner.
Meanwhile, junior offensive tackle Antonio Hall will be out for approximately one week because of a sprained ankle sustained in practice on Wednesday afternoon.
