Gustav Pousette, who has participated on the UK men’s tennis team the last four years, was recently awarded a postgraduate scholarship of $5,000 from the NCAA. Pousette, who recently graduated with a degree in foreign language and international economics, maintained a perfect 4.0 grade-point average for his four years at Kentucky. Last month, Pousette was named to the Verizon Academic All-America At-Large First Team.
The NCAA awarded 58 postgraduate scholarships of $5,000 each to 29 menand 29 women who participated in spring sports, which included men’s andwomen’s track, men’s and women’s tennis, softball, men’s volleyball, men’sand women’s golf, baseball, rowing, water polo and lacrosse.
In addition to the fall sport honorees, the NCAA also awards 116postgraduate scholarships to student-athletes participating in winter andfall sports in which the NCAA conducts championships, for a total of 174postgraduate scholarships annually.
To qualify for an NCAA postgraduate scholarship, a student-athlete musthave an overall grade-point average of 3.200 (on a 4.000 scale) or itsequivalent and must have performed with distinction as a member of thevarsity team in the sport in which the student-athlete was nominated. Thestudent-athlete must have behaved, both on and off the field, in a mannerthat has brought credit to the student-athlete, the institution andintercollegiate athletics. The student-athlete also must intend to continueacademic work beyond the baccalaureate degree as a full-time or part-timegraduate student.
