PALO ALTO, Calif. – Three University of Kentucky track and field athletes fared well this past weekend at the USA Track and Field Junior Nationals in Palo Alto, Calif. Leading they way was freshman Nicole Allyn, who finished fourth in the women’s hammer throw with a toss of 171.42.

Fellow freshman Gennessa Guzman took home fifth place in the women’s discus with her throw of 154-03, while finishing 14th in the hammer throw. Rounding out UK’s outstanding performances was junior Hunter Spencer, who finished 9th in the 1500 meters with a time of 3:43.69. Spencer also competed in the Senior Nationals over the weekend, finishing ninth in the 1500-meter preliminaries and 12th overall.

Also competing at the Senior Nationals were Chad Johnson and David Freeman. Freeman enjoyed success in the 800 meters, finishing sixth in the preliminaries with a time of 1:51.03, while taking 15th in the semifinals.

The meets wrap up the 2001-02 track and field season, which began in early December with indoor action. The Wildcats return to action in late August with cross country races.
