University of Kentucky tennis player Gustav Pousette was named to the men’s Verizon At-Large Academic All-District IV first team, the College Sports Information Directors of America announced. As a first team member, Pousette will now be placed on the national ballot for the Academic All-America team.
A native of Kolmarden, Sweden, Pousette makes his second consecutive appearance on the first team after being named second-team all-district as a sophomore. A senior majoring in foreign language and international economics, he has a perfect grade-point average and helped Kentucky advance to the final eight of the 2002 NCAA Men’s Tennis Tournament. Pousette finished his final season with a 38-8 singles record and a 22-15 doubles mark. He began the season 12-0 and was ranked as high as No. 84 nationally.
Pousette has been a constant member of the Dean’s List and Athletic Director’s Honor Roll, while also being named to the Southeastern Conference Academic Honor Roll. He is a member of the Golden Key National Honor Society, Omicron Delta Epsilon International Economics Honor Society and Delta Phi Alpha National German Honor Society.
The Verizon At-Large team is selected by members of CoSIDA based on nominations from the following sports: fencing, golf, gymnastics, ice hockey, lacrosse, rifle, skiing, swimming, tennis, men’s volleyball, water polo and men’s wrestling. Nominees must be a starter or important reserve, have at least a 3.20 cumulative gpa, reached sophomore athletic and academic standing and have completed at least one full academic year at the athlete’s insitution.
