Add Anthony White to NFL Europe List:

Running back Anthony White has been activated by the Berlin Thunder and is the fifth former Wildcat playing in NFL Europe.

White has made a big impact in his two weeks with the team. In his first game, he was named the league’s Offensive Player of the Week in Berlin’s 28-9 win over Amsterdam. Typical of his performance at Kentucky, White accounted for 186 yards in the victory. He rushed 16 times for 97 yards and one touchdown while catching five passes for 89 yards.

Berlin won again last week. Winless in their first three games without White, the Thunder has rolled to two victories with him in the lineup.

Other Wildcats in NFL Europe are DB Willie Gary with the Scottish Claymores, WR Jimmy Robinson with the Rhein Fire, and RB Derek Homer and DE Matt Layow with the Barcelona Dragons.For more information on NFL Europe, go to website www.nfleurope.com.

Wiggins Named an NSCA All-American:

Patrick Wiggins, a senior safety on the 2001 Kentucky football team, has been named an All-America Athlete by the National Strength and Conditioning Association.

The All-America Strength and Conditioning Athletes are recognized for their athletic accomplishments, academic and personal achievements, community involvement, and leadership qualities. Marc Hill, UK strength and conditioning coach, nominated Wiggins for the award.In the 2001 season, Wiggins started every game at outside safety. He was third on the team in tackles with 81. He was second on the team in tackles for loss with nine. He added two pass breakups, caused two fumbles, recovered one fumble, and had one interception.

In the classroom, Wiggins completed his bachelor’s degree in 2001 and already has completed a year of work toward a master’s degree. He was a three-year member of the SEC Academic Honor Roll.

Wiggins becomes the 20th Wildcat since 1976 to be named an All-America Athlete by the NSCA.


Anthony Kelly Receives SEC Community Service Post-Graduate Scholarship:


Anthony Kelly, a senior wide receiver for the 2001 football team, has received a Southeastern Conference Community Service Scholarship Award. The award provides a $2,000 scholarship.Kelly was a member of the 2001 SEC “Good Works Team” and was extremely active in community service during his years at UK.

Most Players at Home:

Most of the Wildcats are home for the month of May, then will return to Lexington in June. Approximately 25-30 players are in the Lexington area and working out.

Coaches in Spring Recruiting Period:

The spring recruiting period is in progress for the UK coaching staff. Coaches are allowed to visit high schools, meet with principals, coaches and counselors, visit athletic combines, and evaluate athletic competition, such as spring football practice, baseball, track, etc.
