University of Kentucky men’s soccer player Ilkka Jantti continued to add to his senior season accolades by being named to the Southeastern Conference At-Large Sports Good Works team, as well as receiving an NCAA-sponsored $5,000 scholarship for post-graduate study.
Jantti, a native of Lahti, Finland, earned the SEC honor for the first time by his continued support and service to the Lexington, Ky., community. He has participated in UK’s Schoolhouse Rock academic rally for fourth and fifth graders and the Breakfast with Santa program at the UK Children’s Hospital. He also volunteers with the Hope Center and is a mentor in the Big Buddy program at Maxwell Elementary School.
In addition, Jantti was one of 58 student-athletes nationwide who participate in fall sports to receive the NCAA grant. He received his degree this May in finance/management and earned numerous academic and athletic awards this year. Jantti was the Mid-American Conference Player of the Year and a National Soccer Coaches Association of American second-team All-American. He also was named to the NSCAA Scholar All-America first team, Verizon Academic All-America first team and the MAC and SEC Academic Honor Rolls.
The Good Works Team looks to highlight an athlete from each SEC School who gives back to the community in superior service efforts. The NCAA scholarship program awards student-athletes who have a 3.0 grade-point average and have behaved in a manner that has brought credit to the student-athlete, the institution and intercollegiate athletics.
