STARKVILLE, Miss. – The University of Kentucky track and field teams wrapped up competition at the 2002 Southeastern Conference Outdoor Championships in Starkville, Miss., on Sunday, May 12. Highlighting Sunday’s action were fourth place finishes by Beth Heimann for the women and David Freeman for the men in the 800-meters finals.
Heimann’s time of 2:07.32 earned her a spot in the top five, while Freeman finished his race with a personal best time of 1:47.66, just ahead of teammates Chad Johnson, who finished sixth, and James Doaty, who took home eight place.
Bill Powers finished fifth in the men’s discus with a toss of 164-10.00, while teammate Jeff Chakouian, who won the men’s shot put on Saturday, finished 11th. Junior Simidele Adeagbo was seventh in the women’s triple jump with a leap of 40-07.00. Sophomore Caitlin Phillips finished 11th in the women’s 5000 meters with a time of 17:41.07.
Two Wildcats earned All-SEC status on the weekend as Chakouian and Janet Crawford took home first place in the men’s shot put and women’s high jump, respectively. UK returns to action on Friday, May 17 at the Georgia Tech Invitational in Atlanta, Ga.
