STARKVILLE, Miss. – University of Kentucky track and field senior Aisha Smith had a strong performance on Friday, May 10 at the Southeastern Conference Championships in Starkville, Miss. The Bronx, N.Y., native took fifth place in the women’s hammer throw with a personal best throw of 179-04.00. That mark also broke the school record of 179-02.00 set by Smith last year.

Sophomore Kristen Mowrey wrapped up competition in the heptathlon on Friday, finishing seventh with 4,890 points. Sophomore Beth Heimann positioned herself well for Sunday’s 800 meters finals after finish seventh in preliminary action with a time of 2:07.60. On the men’s side, James Doaty, Chad Johnson and David Freeman each qualified for Sunday’s final in the 800 meters with Doaty and Johnson recording NCAA provisional qualifying marks in the preliminaries.

The Wildcats continue action on Saturday afternoon with the men’s pole vault at 4 p.m. Sophomore Jeff Chakouian looks to take home his first outdoor championship in the men’s shot put at 7 p.m. on Saturday.
