LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The University of Kentucky track and field teams had a successful showing at the Cardinal Open in Louisville, Ky., on Friday, April 26. The Wildcats left with eight event titles including six for the women. Demetrius Roberts and Gennessa Guzman each claimed two first-place finishes.
Roberts took top honors in both the 100 and 200-meter runs, while Guzman’s honors came in the discus and hammer throws. Sophomore Elmetta Johnson got in on the action with a first-place performance in the 100-meter hurdles. Her time of 14.07 matched her personal best set earlier this season at the Sea Ray Relays.
Sophomore Kristen Mowrey had a career day as well, tying her personal best and claming a season best jump of 5-07.00 in the women’s high jump for first place. Freshman Susanne Funken had a personal best in the event as well with a leap of 5-03.00. Mowrey took 12th in the 200-meter run with a season-best time of 26.68.
For the men, senior Bryan Wilson finished first in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 14.48, while fellow senior Chris Daniel won the men’s pole vault with his mark of 16-04.75. Sophomore Ben Brewster took third place in the 400-meter hurdles with his season-best time of 55.01.
The Wildcats enjoy a week off before traveling to Starkville, Miss., on May 9 for the Southeastern Conference Outdoor Championships. The event runs through Sunday, May 12.
