Columbia, S.C. – The 17th-ranked University of Kentucky women’s tennis team (15-7) will travel to Columbia, S.C., on Thursday, April 18, to compete in the Southeastern Conference Championships on the campus of the University of South Carolina. The Wildcats garnered a seven seed in the highly competitive tournament that boasts 10 ranked teams, six of them in the Top 20.

The opening round will pit UK against the 44th-ranked LSU Tigers. In UK’s previous meeting with the Tigers, the Wildcats were narrowly upset in a catfight, 4-3. The Tennis Cats will look to exact revenge on LSU at 2 p.m. on Thursday.

“With so many great teams in the SEC, it is always a great opportunity to come to the Championships and register some big wins,” Coach Mark Guilbeau said. “LSU is a solid team and they got a big win over us when we were in Baton Rouge. We will have to come out much more focused if we want to advance past them in this tournament.”

The winner of Thursday’s match will advance to face the tough task of battling the second-ranked Florida Gators on Friday, April 19 at 2 p.m. The Gators received an opening-round bye.
