LEXINGTON, Ky. – University of Kentucky volleyball player Liz McCaslin will represent the university, the athletics department and the Wildcat volleyball program at the NCAA Foundation Leadership Conference in Lake Buena Vista, Fla., May 26-30. McCaslin was one of 300 student-athletes selected out of 1,183 nominations from 296 institutions.

In conjunction with the CHAMPS/Life Skills program, the NCAA Foundation created the NCAA Foundation Leadership Conference in 1996. The mission of the conference is to offer a diverse group of the nation’s top student-athletes an opportunity to participate actively in challenging and thought-provoking activities that will enable them to become better leaders on their campuses and in their communities.

McCaslin missed most of the 2001 season after injuring her back. She received a medical redshirt and has two years of eligibility remaining. She returned to action this spring for exhibition play and provided excellent leadership for the Wildcats during the four-week season.

“From day one, Liz has lived out the UK volleyball philosophy in becoming the best that you can be by giving of yourself and taking ownership in making things better around you,” Coach Jona Braden said. “For her to have this opportunity to participate with some of the nation’s top student-athletes and better herself will only benefit our program. This is a huge honor for Liz and the entire program.”

McCaslin and the Wildcats return to the court Labor Day weekend at the Hofstra Invitational in Hempstead, N.Y.
