Head Coach Guy Morriss
On team unity…
“I believe that they’re feeding off the coaches. But that’s something we reinforce to them every day – the importance of being a team, playing together, looking out for one another – things that should be natural for a football team to do. And they’ve done a great job at that aspect.”
On surprises on the team…
“Trey Mielsch is someone that comes to mind immediately. He’s done a great job filling in for Sweet Pea (Vincent Burns). Deion Holts has flashed all through the spring also. Alexis (Bwenge) has had a good spring and Tommy Cook and (Aaron) Boone are catching the ball real well and making plays.”
On the offense…
“Jared (Lorenzen) from day one has been a very pleasant surprise. He’s picked up right where he left off. He seems to me like he has a better feel and command of the offense. He knows where people are around him and has developed into a leader.”
On Mike Kamphake…
“He’s scheduled for arthroscopic surgery on Tuesday. He has a little cartilage tear that we’re going to take care of. It shows you what kind of kid he is that he has surgery scheduled for Tuesday and is out here practicing today. He’s hard to keep off the field.”
On the second and third teams…
“We’re basically looking to see if they can make plays in tense situations and can they respond to pressure. Some of them have done well and some of them have not done very well and have a ways to go. But that’s why we practice – give them the opportunities to improve and prove to us that they can be players.”
