The 20th-ranked University of Kentucky gymnastics team travels to Denton, Texas, to face Texas Woman’s University in its final regular-season meet on Friday, March 15. Action is slated to begin at Kitty Magee Arena at 7 p.m. CT. The meet also will serve as the GymKats’ final preparation for the upcoming Southeastern Conference Championships on March 23.

“This is a very important meet for us,” Coach Leah Little said. “We have two more opportunities to improve our regional qualifying score and we need to do well here. This team knows how good it is and how good it can be. I fully expect them to come through with a good performance this week.”

UK (7-6, 1-4 SEC) is coming off a tough, 197.425-195.100, home loss to No. 2 Alabama last week during senior night. Seniors Nicole Allen, Jessie Lemp, Jennifer Simmons and Katie Toups were honored for their achievements throughout their illustrious careers. Despite the loss, UK’s team total was the third highest of the season.

Sophomore Aronda Primault leads the way for the GymKats as she is first on the team on the vault, balance beam and the all-around. As an all-arounder, Primault is ranked 23rd in the country, second in the Central Region and third in the SEC. Just behind her is fellow sophomore Julie Joy. Joy is first on the team on bars and second on the floor exercise and in the all-around, in which she ranks 28th nationally and fourth in the region and conference.

Junior Julia Gore is second on the team on the vault, and junior Mindy Smith is second on the balance beam, while Lemp is second on the bars and freshman Michelle Gales is first on the floor.
