The University of Kentucky diving team will compete in the Zone B Qualifying Meet on March 15-16 at the Lancaster Aquatic Center on UK’s campus. The meet will feature divers from 18 NCAA institutions who will vie for a chance to go to the NCAA Championships.

Senior Aaron Kirkpatrick and junior Clayton Moss lead the way for the men’s divers. Moss was recently named the 2002 Southeastern Conference Championship Diver of the Meet after capturing his second straight SEC title on the one-meter. He also placed second in the platform and third in the three-meter. Kirkpatrick came in second in both the one-meter and three-meter competitions. Freshman John Collier will also be competing for UK.

On the women’s side, junior Kelly Frost and freshmen Alison Riccobono and Trisha Tumlinson will compete for the Cats. Tumlinson took fourth at the SEC Championships in the platform competition.

Eight diving squads from the SEC will be competing, as well as schools from the Atlantic Coast Conference, Big East Conference and other schools in the southeast part of the United States.

The competition includes some of the best divers in the country, including Kirkpatrick and Moss, both All-Americans last year. Also competing are 2001 All-Americans Caesar Garcia from Auburn, Brandon Hulko from South Carolina and Kyle Prandi from Miami (Fla.). Also competing is Imre Lengyel, a senior from Miami (Fla.), who competed on the Hungarian Olympic Team in 2000.

Some of the notable women diving in the meet are 2001 All-Americans Katie Beth Bryant from Miami (Fla.), Michelle Coryell and Jamie Watkins from LSU, and Jamie Sanger and Kylee Wells from Tennessee. Michelle Davidson, a senior from Miami (Fla.) who participated on the USA Olympic Team in 2000, will also compete.

The participants in this meet have qualified with point scores in dual meets or championship meets during the season. The 12 men and 13 women with the best scores will advance to the NCAA Championships.
