The 11th-ranked University of Kentucky women’s tennis team continued its impressive play on Sunday, March 10 grabbing a Southeastern Conference victory over the Mississippi State Bulldogs at the A. J. Pitts Tennis Centre in Starkville, Miss. The Cats (11-3, 2-3 SEC) scored a 5-2 victory over the Bulldogs to lead the UK/MSU series 21-3.

Kentucky swept the doubles action to take a 1-0 lead early in the match. Danielle Petrisko and Amy Trefethen grabbed the first win at No. 3 over Justyan Switala and Yumi Ueda, 8-1. The Cats fourth0ranked tandem of Sarah Witten and Carolina Mayorga topped off the doubles point with a powerful 8-2 win on the first court.

Lauren Rookledge, Trefethen and Witten secured the UK win with straight set victories at No. 2-4. The Bulldogs came back fighting on the first and sixth courts with victories over No. 26 Carolina Mayorga and Danielle Petrisko. Leigh Bradwell gave Kentucky its last point with a three-set win at No. 5 over MSU’s Ueda.

The Cats look to improve its record returning to action on Friday, March 15 when they travel to Gainesville, Fla., to take on the Gators. The match is set to begin at 5 p.m.
