LEXINGTON, Ky. – The University of Kentucky swimming team will send seven women and six men to Athens, Ga., this weekend to compete in the Bulldog Invitational, March 2-3, as the Kentucky swimmers continue to try and obtain automatic qualifying times for the 2002 NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships.
As a group, the UK swimmers have recorded 18 NCAA provisional qualifying times with freshman Chrissy Miller leading the way with for the women with three. She has collected individual times in the 100 freestyle (50.74), 200 freestyle (1:50.31) and 500 freestyle (4:49.84) as well as being a part of the women’s 800-freestyle relay squad. Senior Carolyn Rader’s 200 freestyle (1:50.33) and 500 freestyle (4:50.35) and freshman Marci Vrooman’s 200 freestyle (1:50.47) and 500 freestyle (4:51.03) times meet the NCAA “B” time standard as well and the pair is also a part of the 800-freestyle relay squad. Sophomore Shawna Sechrist has met the provisional times in both the 100 (56.47) and 200 (2:00.36) backstrokes.
For the men, sophomore Joey Faltraco has met three provisional times and is a part of the 200-medley relay squad that has met the provisional qualifying time. His 200 backstroke (1:45.33) and 200 (1:49.17) and 400 (3:52.63) individual medley times, all of which are Wildcat records, are all within the NCAA’s “B” qualifying time standard.
Senior Sarah Carter, juniors Eddie Clement, Aaron Cuker, Adam Gustafson and Emily Johnston, sophomore Daniel Wimer and freshmen Daniel Cruz and Jessica Siegele will join those five and travel to Athens this weekend.
