FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The University of Kentucky track and field teams wrapped up competition at the 2002 Southeastern Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships on Sunday, Feb. 24, in Fayetteville, Ark., at the Randal Tyson Track Center on the campus of the University of Arkansas.
Highlighting today’s outstanding performances were two first-place Wildcat finishes by Jeff Chakouian in the men’s shot put (63-02.00) and Janet Crawford in the women’s high jump (5-08.50).
Also performing well was Ernest Simms in the men’s 60 meters with a provisional-qualifying and personal-best mark of 6.69, good enough for a fifth-place finish. David Freeman took sixth in the men’s 800 meter-finals with a provisional-qualifying mark of 1:48.91.
Thomas Morgan took sixth in the men’s 3000 meters with a provisional time of 8:10.29, his best run of the season. Morgan also finished fifth in the 5000 meters with a time of 14:22.05. Matt Smothermon had a season-best jump of 6-08.75 in the men’s high jump, placing him eighth.
Beth Heimann turned in a provisional time of 2:08.15 in the 800 meters to finish fifth, her second-best time of the indoor season.
