FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The University of Kentucky men’s swimming and diving team stands in first place with 153 points while the women are in eighth with 89 points after the third day of the 2002 Southeastern Conference Championships held on the University of Arkansas campus.

Junior Clayton Moss finished the championships by placing second in the platform competition, scoring a 511.30, while teammate Aaron Kirkpatrick placed seventh with a score of 409.70 as the diving competition was completed Wednesday.

For the championships, Moss picked up a SEC title (one-meter), a runner-up finish (platform) and a third-place finish (three-meter). Kirkpatrick also had a successful three days, placing second in both the one- and three-meter competitions and seventh on the platform.

“It feels good to have such success here,” Moss said. “This is definitely a tough conference and it feels good to be on top.”

For the female divers, freshman Trisha Tumlinson placed fourth on the platform with a score of 387.35 in her first conference championship finals event.

The UK women’s 200-medley relay squad made up of Jessica Siegele, Kendra Trahan, Xenavee Pangelinan and Sarah Hoppe placed ninth with a time of 1:46.33 as the swimming portion of the championships began on Wednesday night. The Wildcat women closed out the night by clocking a NCAA “B” cut in the 800-freestyle relay. Chrissy Miller, Marci Vrooman, Sarah Hoppe and Carolyn Rader clocked a time of 7:25.67 for the provisional qualifying time.

The UK men’s 200-medlay relay squad comprised of Joey Faltraco, Roger Watkins, Daniel Wimer and Fernando Barros met an NCAA “B” cut by clocking a time of 1:29.50, placing them eighth in the event. The men closed out the night swimming a 6:39.96 in the 800-freestyle relay. The quartet of Daniel Cruz, Faltraco, Ryan Bowman and Adam Gustafson teamed up for the seventh-place finish.

The 500 freestyle, 200 IM, 50 freestyle and 200-freestyle relay events will all be held on Thursday as the championships turn its focus completely to swimming.
