FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Senior Aaron Kirkpatrick established the University of Kentucky record in the three-meter championship springboard competition with a score of 592.50 as the Wildcats opened up the 2002 Southeastern Conference Championships on the campus of the University of Arkansas with a second and third-place finish on Monday, Feb. 18. Junior Clayton Moss finished third with a score of 541.50 while Tennessee’s Phillip Jones won the event with a 596.25.
Kirkpatrick, who had trailed Moss after both the preliminaries and semifinals, jumped up from fifth-place in the semifinals to second in the finals while Moss went from fourth to third.
The women did not fair as well as none of UK’s female entrants made it out of the preliminary round. Freshman Trisha Tumlinson placed 12th with a score of 242.85 followed immediately by freshman Alison Riccobono (241.30) and junior Kelli Frost (228.50).
The competition will continue on Tuesday with the women’s three-meter and men’s one-meter competitions. The men’s preliminaries begin at 10:30 a.m. CT and the women’s at 2 p.m. CT with finals beginning at 6:30 p.m. CT.
