The University of Kentucky track and field squad wrapped up competition in the Iowa State Classic in Ames, Iowa, on Saturday, Feb. 9. Freshman Beth Heimann finished fifth in the women’s mile with a time of 4:54.68, while UK’s men’s distance medley team took fourth with an NCAA automatic qualifying time of 9:36.19.

Sophomore Hunter Spencer took third in the men’s mile with a provisional-qualifying time of 4:04.05, the third fastest indoor time in school history. Spencer posted the second fastest time at the SEC East meet last month.

Football crossover athlete Ernest Simms continued his stellar showings in the men’s 60 meters, finishing third with a time of 6.74, just two hundredths of a second off the NCAA provisional qualifying mark. Simms also took ninth in the 200 meters with a time of 21.51.

Chad Johnson finished fifth in the men’s 800 meter run with a time of 1:50.47, while teammate Paul Ciurlys was close behind in 11th.

In field event action, freshman Gennessa Guzman took fourth place in the women’s weight throw with a provisional qualifying toss of 59-01.50. Nicole Allyn took 11th and Aisha Smith finished 13th in the event. Junior Janet Crawford finished fourth in the women’s high jump with a leap of 5-07.75, while fellow junior Simidele Adeagbo was third in the women’s triple jump with a provisional qualifying mark of 41-07.75.
