The University of Kentucky men’s golf team jumped two spots in the final round to finish in 12th place in its spring season opener at the University of Florida Gator Invitational on Sunday, Feb. 10 in Gainesville. The squad posted a team score of 888 for the three-round, highly-competitive tournament.
Freshman John Holmes and junior Andy Dustman tallied the top finishes for the Wildcats as they ended the two-day invitational in a tie for 37th place with a pair of 10-over par 220’s. Other UK finishers included senior John-Gordon Beckett with a 221, freshman Mark Blakefield with a 227 and junior Ryan Coyne with a 235.
The Gator Invitational title went to LSU with a team score of 846. Alabama-Birmingham’s Graeme MCDowell took medalist honors for his three-round, 10-under par performance.
The Cats will be back in action on Feb. 18-19 at the Matlock Invitational in Lakeland, Fla.
