The University of Kentucky women’s tennis team another big win on Sunday, Feb. 3, when it shutout the 62nd-ranked Purdue Boilermakers 7-0 in West Lafayette, Ind. The Cats improve to 7-1 on the year with their lone loss coming in a close decision against second-ranked Duke.

The Wildcats took the early lead by sweeping all three doubles courts to win the match’s opening point. UK continued to roll in singles competition as it completed the shutout by taking all six singles points.

“We are playing excellent tennis right now and we are where we want to be,” Coach Mark Guilbeau said. “Coming off this road trip with two big wins over Notre Dame and Purdue is great for our confidence. We need to keep up this intensity heading into the next few weeks and conference play.”

The women’s tennis team will be back in action on Saturday, Feb. 16 when they travel north to Ann Arbor, Mich., to take on Michigan. The match is slated for 1:00 p.m.
