– The University of Kentucky rifle team suffered its second loss of the season when it traveled to face the Xavier Musketeers. The Wildcats, taking second place in each event, finished with a combined score 6207 compared to Xavier’s score of 6227.
Sophomore James Nash led the smallbore competition for the Cats taking second place with a combined 1174, giving his best in the prone event with 396. Fellow sophomore Bradley Wheeldon finished second among the UK team with 1169, leading with a prone score of 400. The Wildcats took the second and third place honors in the air rifle competition with freshman Aaron Shader leading the way. Shader finished with 391, the top score among the Cats, but Wheeldon was not far behind with a 390.
Also competing were sophomore Lindsey Meagher in smallbore and junior Crystal Hamilton in air rifle. Meagher finished third among the team with a combined score 1148 while Hamilton tied with Nash for third among the Wildcats with a 388 air rifle score.
The Rifle Cats will take part in the Withrow Invitational next Saturday, Jan. 26, in Murray, Ky.
