The University of Kentucky women’s tennis doubles pair of senior Lauren Rookledge and junior Leigh Bradwell, the nation’s 49th-ranked duo, claimed the doubles championship at the Milwaukee Tennis Classic on Sunday, Jan. 13. The tournament is the nation’s longest-running collegiate tennis tournament.

Rookledge and Bradwell defeated Lynsey Fick and Melissa Woods of Purdue 8-3 in the championship match to walk away with the prestigious title.

“This is a big victory for Lauren and Leigh and a big honor for our program,” Coach Mark Guilbeau said. “This is another great example of this team taking a step in the right direction and showing that it is focused and prepared for the upcoming dual match season.”

The Wildcats will begin dual match play on Saturday, Jan. 19, when both the Cincinnati Bearcats and Marshall Thundering Herd travel to Lexington. UK will face Cincinnati at 10 a.m. and take on Marshall at 3:30 p.m. Both matches will be held at the Lexington Tennis Club.
