ANNIE GAGE SELECTED SECOND-TEAM ALL-GREAT LAKES REGION
For the second time in her career, University of Kentucky forward Annie Gage was named to the National Soccer Coaches Association of America Great Lakes Region second team, the NSCAA announced Tuesday. The senior from Westerville, Ohio, was awarded equivalent status after her record-setting sophomore season of 1999.
“I’m proud of Annie and everything she was able to accomplish in her career,” Coach Warren Lipka said. “She earned everything she has received through hard work and determination, and I feel there are greater things awaiting her in the professional ranks.”
Gage led the Wildcats to a 12-8-1 overall record and a berth to the NCAA Tournament in 2001. Tying the UK career record for points scored with 107 this season, she also set all-time marks in shots taken (208) and assists (33). The senior captain was voted first-team All-Southeastern Conference, selected to the 2001 SEC All-Tournament team and was named the PNC Bank Student Athlete of the Week for Sept. 24-30.
Leading the Cats in goals (11), assists (8), and points (30) in 2001, Gage rewrote the UK record books as a sophomore, setting single-season records for points scored with 29 and goals scored with 15. In 2000, Gage tied the single-season assist mark of 11 and was selected to the SEC All-Tournament Team, while being named to the Soccer Buzz Magazine All-Great Lakes Region Team.
