LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The University of Kentucky volleyball team fell to Louisville, 3-0, in a rescheduled match on Wednesday, Nov. 21 at Cardinal Arena in Louisville, Ky. The match was originally scheduled for Sept. 11 but was postponed in light of the national tragedy.

Kentucky shot a mere .102 on the match to Louisville’s .289 hitting percentage. Setter Kristi Kelley’s five kills on 10 attempts was good for a .300 hitting percentage, the best on the night for the Cats.

Louisville (24-6, 13-3 C-USA) managed to grab an early 5-2 lead in the first game before the Wildcats tied it at six. UK then went on a run of its own, pushing ahead 11-8 before the Cards put together a 10-0 run to put Kentucky down 18-11. The Cats managed to record seven more points before Louisville sealed the game, 30-18, with a kill down the right side. The Cats shot a -.031 for the game to U of L’s .333 hitting percentage.

Kentucky (13-14, 6-8 SEC) took the early 4-1 lead in the second game before the Cards tied things at five. The teams exchanged the lead for much of the game before U of L took a 23-17 lead. The Cats battled back, however, pulling within three at 25-22. A timeout gave the Cardinals a chance to regroup and take the next two points, putting UK down 27-22. The Cats put one more point on the board before the Cards sealed the game, 30-23, and took a 2-0 advantage into the lockerroom.

Things stayed close to start the third game before a 4-0 run put Louisville up 11-6. The Cats struggled to get a run together as the Cards built their lead to 10 at 21-11 forcing the Cats to take a timeout. A 7-2 Kentucky run, including a huge block assist by April Barnhorst and Anne Koester, forced a U of L timeout with the Cards leading 26-19. UK put two more points on the board before Louisville sealed the game and match with the 30-21 win.

Kentucky returns to action on Friday, Nov. 23, when they close out the 2001 campaign with a trip to Clemson. The match gets underway at 7 p.m. at Jervey Gym.
