Lexington, Ky. – The University of Kentucky women’s basketball team signed two players to national letter of intent, Coach Bernadette Mattox announced today. Jenny Pfeiffer, a 5-8 shooting guard from North Vernon, Ind., and Jennifer Humphrey, a 6-3 forward/center of Memphis, Tenn., have signed to play for the Wildcats next season.
Pfeiffer, a four-year starter, averaged 21 points, five assists, four rebounds and three assists last year at Jennings County High School. She shot 41 percent from behind the arc and 79 percent from the charity stripe, helping lead the Lady Panthers to their first sectional win and regional appearance in 2000-01. She was named first team All-State by the Louisville Courier-Journal and was a Street & Smith All-America honorable mention two years.
“What excites me about Jenny is her perimeter shooting,” Mattox said. “She can knock down the three-pointer and she has great floor leadership. She is an absolute gymrat and she understands how to win. I’m most impressed with her love of the game.”
Humphrey averaged 17 points, 10 rebounds and three blocks in her junior season at Ridgeway High School. She is a three-time All-District select and was twice named to the All-Region Tournament team. Last season she was named All-Region and was first team All-Shelby Metro. As a sophomore at Ridgeway, Humphrey was All-State honorable mention and was named the 15AA Sophomore of the Year.
“Jennifer has great size and inside presence,” Mattox said. “She has a soft touch around the basket and great rebounding ability. Her presence on the floor at 6-3 will bring us added depth to our inside play and we are really excited about Jennifer joining our Wildcat family.”
The early signing period ends Wednesday, Nov. 21.
