The University of Kentucky rifle team defeated Nebraska on Saturday, Nov. 10, at UK’s Buell Armory by a score of 6213-6099. Although both teams scored a 1545 in air rifle competition, the Cats grabbed the victory with a score of 4668 in smallbore action over Nebraska’s score of 4554.

Sophomore James Nash led the Wildcats with a first place finish in smallbore with a 1178 and a second place finish in air rifle action with a score of 389. Lindsey Meagher captured first place honors in air rifle with a 392, while Bradley Wheeldon took second place in smallbore competition with a score of 1170. Freshman Aaron Shader placed forth in both competitions.

Nebraska’s Amanda Trujillo took third place in smallbore action with a score of 1168 and Alicia Sawyer grabbed third place honors with a score of 389 in the air rifle competition.

“The team performed well today and I think that a large part of it was getting back into our home range,” Head Coach Harry Mullins said about the team’s first home match of the season. “Having the chance to get back in our own range will give us the focus we need to meet some of our team goals for the year. We are still having some difficulty in air rifle competition, but I am very proud of the team’s performance today.”

The Wildcats will have the chance to build on the team goals on Sunday, Nov. 11, as they play host to intra-state rival Murray State.
