GAGE VOTED FIRST-TEAM ALL-SEC, BOYCE RECEIVES SECOND-TEAM HONORS
BATON ROUGE, La. – Senior forward Annie Gage was voted first-team All-Southeastern Conference and junior forward Keri Boyce received second-team All-SEC honors, the conference announced on Thursday, Nov. 7 at the annual SEC Women’s Soccer Tournament banquet in Baton Rouge, La.
Gage, making her second appearance on the conference’s first-team list, earned equivalent status in 1999 when the Westerville, Ohio (Westerville South) native set UK single-season records with 15 goals and 39 points scored. An All-SEC Tournament pick in 2000, Gage owns Kentucky career marks in assists (32) and broke the record for career shots (199) this year. Leading the Wildcats in goals (8) and points (23) this season, she is only one of two players in UK soccer history to amass 100 points in a career. The 2001 UK team captain needs only seven points to tie and eight to dethrone Kim LaBelle (1994-97) as UK’s all-time leader in points scored with 107.
“It’s an honor to be recognized by the SEC, but this recognition is just as much my teammates’ as it is mine,” Gage said. “We all work together on achieving success, and this is a result of teamwork and dedicating ourselves to achieving our goals. Win or lose, we do everything as a team.”
Boyce, a native of Birdsboro, Pa. (Daniel Boone), and the lone Kentucky representative on the SEC first team in 2000, has posted four goals and five assists for 13 points through 18 games this season. The SEC Freshman of the Year in 1999, she was also voted second-team All-SEC that season and set the UK single-season shots mark of 87 as a sophomore. She currently ranks third in career points (74), shots (183) and goals (28).
“I’m pleased to earn the respect from the league but this was a team effort,” Boyce said. “Any time individual players are recognized, there is a team playing with that individual that deserves just as much credit for the honor.”
The Wildcats (11-6-1/5-4-0 SEC) will battle Tennessee (11-5-0/7-2-0 SEC) in the first round of the 2001 SEC Tournament on Thursday, November 8 at 3:30 p.m. ET. All games will be scored live on the Internet and can be accessed by going to www.LSUsports.net and clicking on SEC Tournament.
