The University of Kentucky women’s golf team ended the opening day of the Pine Needles Invitational in Southern Pines, N.C., in fourth place on Monday, Nov. 5. The Lady Kats sit only nine shots back of first-place Kent State with two rounds left to play.

Senior Kristen Pepe and junior Kelly Anders finished with a pair of 75’s for the Kats to finish in a tie for fourth place. Pepe and Anders are currently six shots back of Kent State’s Jan Dowling, who finished her impressive first round with a 69. Other Lady Kat rounds included Eva Gessner with a 77, Rachel Lester with an 80 and Towa Okiyama with an 84.

The tournament will conclude on Tuesday, Nov. 6, at Pine Needles Golf Course.
