LEXINGTON, Ky. – The University of Kentucky volleyball team dropped to 5-6 in league play after a 3-1 loss to the Tennessee Volunteers in Memorial Coliseum on Friday, Nov. 2. The match was the first in the weekend series, which concludes on Sunday, Nov. 4, in Knoxville, Tenn.
Kentucky (12-10, 5-6 SEC) was led by freshman Sarah Spinner, who put together her 10th double-double of the year in the second game and finishes with 19 kills and 17 digs in the contest. Two other Wildcats posted double-doubles in the match, as April Barnhorst put down 12 kills and added 10 digs, while Kristen Batt got her 10th D-D with 12 kills and 14 digs.
Tennessee (14-8, 6-5 SEC) moves ahead of UK in the SEC standings, taking sole possession of third in the Eastern division, with the win. Ariana Wilson and Janelle Hester each tallied 16 kills in the match, while Wilson hit a solid .351. Tennessee hit .259 on the match to UK’s .215.
UK took the first game in convincing fashion, 30-23, with strong play from Spinner. Tennessee, however, battled back and grabbed the second game, 30-21. The Wildcats looked frazzled after the break, as Tennessee went on to take match with 30-22 and 30-23 wins.
The teams wrap up the series on Sunday, Nov. 4 with a return trip to Knoxville, Tenn. Play gets underway at 2:30 p.m. at Stokely Athletics Center.
