– COLUMBUS, Ohio-The University of Kentucky rifle team grabbed a victory over Ohio State and Tennessee Tech in a triple match on Sunday, Oct. 28 with a combined score of 6181. Tennessee Tech placed second with 6152 as host Ohio State finished third with a score of 6118.
The Wildcats swept the smallbore competition with top shooters in all finalist spots. Bradley Wheeldon finished first with a score of 1162 as fellow sophomore James Nash was not far behind in second with a 1159. Lindsey Meagher placed third as freshman Aaron Shader tied for fourth with Maxium Shub of Tennessee Tech. Wheeldon led the Cats in air rifle competition tied in first with a 389.
Kentucky was victorious in smallbore competition with a combined score of 4636. Tennessee Tech followed in second with 4604 and Ohio State had a score of 4578. In air rifle action, the Wildcats came up short of first place with a combined score of 1545 under Tennessee Tech’s 1548.
“I am proud of this team,” head coach Harry Mullins said. “They worked very hard and held their composure. I think we are going on the right track and things will look better for us once we get in our own range and spend more time shooting.”
The Rifle Cats will take a short break from action before playing host to Nebraska on Nov. 10.
